The application will now get portablity and they will be compatible across many social networks.
Why do we need OpenSocial?

There are tons of social networking sites out there, we create profiles, invite friends, interact with them. Won’t it be cool if we could track the activities of our friends, share and interact with them through a single network which could communicate with the other networks. That’s where OpenSocial will come into play. It will provide a communication channel between various social networks.
Happy developers.

Developers will get an instant flood of potential users. OpenSocial will serve to over 100 millions of users. What developers just need to do is customise their current applications (facebook applications) to be compatible with opensocial. Facebook currently serves 50 millions users. So, the developers will in total get access to 150 millions users.
